CLUBS : MIDDLE & SECONDARY DEPT
For ages, man has desired to explore the heavenly mysteries. The lure of the galaxy and a fascination for the stars, the sun and the moon has strengthened the desire of man to reach the sky. The Astronomy Club is an effort to satisfy this curiosity among children. Astronomy Club inculcates life skills through intelligent application of astronomy and space science concepts. It encourages the learning of science, geography, practical application and fun activities.
The main objective of the club is to inculcate scientific temper and a spirit of enquiry among the students and to encourage them to use the knowledge to improve their environment. The club activities involve sky observations (evening and overnight session) learning to use equipments like sundial, planisphere, latitude finder, telescope etc interaction with scientists. The overnight session of the club fascinates the students a lot.The students are awarded certificates after completing all the sessions of the module.

The school is trying to create awareness among children about the major environmental concerns. An eco-club has been formed to meet this cause. A group of about 55 students from std VIII have been taken as members of this club who carry out various activities capable of saving and cleansing the environment. The following activities have been undertaken by the group:
- The school has been declared as a "No Polythene Zone" under this campaign, volunteers from Eco-Club keep a check on usage of polythene in the school premises. For the success of the campaign, the students and teachers were taught to make paper bags from waste paper as an alternative to polythenes. Student of Standard 8 made Paper, Clothes & Jute Bags and distributed them in busy market places to shopkeepers and buyers in September 2011.
- A Paper Recycling unit has been started under this club. All the used and waste paper generated in the school is utilized for making recycled paper. The paper produced in the unit is used for the preparation of school notice boards and various art activities.
- Compost pit: A compost pit has been dug in the school premises where the biodegradable waste generated in the school is decomposed to convert it into manure. The manure prepared is used in the school gardens.
- Say no to Cracker Campaign was launched on 2nd November 2011. The students actively participated in the campaign by carrying out a peace march and distributed diyas and candles telling people to celebrate Diwali in peace and light and not by spreading air and noise pollution.
- A botanical garden has been created in the school premises to enable students develop a love for nature and strive for its preservation. Plants belonging to various categories like herbal, medicinal, ornamental and wild are being raised in the garden. The botanical garden serves as a source of information regarding Taxonomic position and agronomic importance of the plants raised.
- Students are also encouraged for participation in the various activities concerned with preservation of environment including competitions and activities at various levels. Students actively participated in the "Protection of Ozone Layer Campaign" organised by the Ministry of Environment & Forest Govt of India, under the observation of the International Day for preservation of Ozone Layer.
- Neighborhood cleanliness drive was organised by the students. They not only spread awareness amongst masses to keep the surroundings clean and hygienic and save environment but also cleaned the streets and drains. Pamphlets were distributed and dustbins were kept at various strategic places.
- A Hygiene and sanitation campaign was organised to spread awareness among people to maintain hygiene students distributed hygiene packets to people in Shakur Basti slums.
- Horticulture: Flower Show-Delhi University:- 54th Annual Flower Show was organized by Delhi University on 1st and 2nd March, 2012. Our School participated in various categories. Students of our school also participated in the on the spot Art Competition. A total of 29 individual prizes have been won by our School in different categories. The school lawn has been awarded III prize and the school periphery has been declared the the best Green Area.
- The students of Eco-club made herbal colours, using natural material like flowers, leaves etc. The purpose of the activity was to motivate students to play a safe, eco-friendly, herbal Holi and to spread the idea in the community.
- Students of Eco-club also enacted skits and plays to generate awareness towards preservation of environment and stopping the use of harmful non-biodegradable chemicals and materials so as to create a better and cleaner atmosphere around us.

- Save Soil Campaign organized by Isha Foundation. A movie on Soil Conservation was shown to students of Classes V-IX. Students wrote letters to Hon’ble Prime minister, emphasizing the urgent need to devise policies in favour of soil conservation.
- eco-quiz as part of National School Paryavaran Competition 2022, organized by Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change under Govt Of India.
- My Tree Programme on 8 July 2022 and performed a skit on the role of bees in human life under the theme Bee The Change.
Bal Bharati Public School, Rohini has become a part of the prestigious Rotary International through the formation of the Interact Club in the school. The school has formed a core committee of the Interact club with the posts of a President, Treasurer, Secretary and Board of Directors. The students from class X and XI which are a part of the club ensure the proper functioning of the club. Various social service projects would be taken up by the club starting from the new session in April such as cleanliness campaign, health and eye checkups, anti-pollution drives and tree plantation drive etc. The students would be made to understand and follow the motto of 'service before self' through the various social service projects.
BBPS Rohini believes in complete holistic education both with activities ranging across academics and engagements beyond the curriculum. The Interact Club of the school is an endeavour in the same light to nurture our students into sensitive and empathetic citizens of a progressive nation. With the beginning of this new year we present to you our list of good deeds chronicled in this e-newsletter Nayi Disha: A Path to Hope as an effort of the school's Interact Club and vow to continue to make meaningful contributions to the society.

- Ritisha Kathuria , Class X and Vidushi Chawla, Class VII participated in Power of Ponytail : Hair donation Campaign organized by Rotoract District 3012 on 29 June 2022 and donated 12 inches of their hair to be used for cancer patients.
Club members participated in the Trash to Cash Challenge as part of School Enterprise challenge conducted by Teach a Man to Fish on 8 July 2022. Students made products with waste material , put up an exhibition in the school and sold them to the students. They uploaded short videos of their experiences on Instagram page of the club.

INTEGRATION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Adopted by United Nations in 2015 SDGs are a universal “blue print to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. BBPS, Rohini has always believed in active participation in matters of local as well as global significance and has, thus, designed and planned UNSDG activities to increase student skills and competences in 21st century skills with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as the framework. The main objective is to ensure that Students excel in an increasingly complex working and living environment while learning to focus on 21st century skills such as creativity, communication, and collaboration.
The various UNSDG activities and events planned and executed are:
- Pre-school & Pre-primary SDG activities :
The SDG are integrated and included into Pre-school and Pre-primary education through teaching, training, storytelling and discussions.
- Awareness through connotative / special assemblies :
The morning assemblies are used as an effective platform to create awareness and a collective responsibility towards issues of Sustainable development. Days like Unity Day, Constitution day, Malala day UN day, World Nature conservation Day, Earth Day, Vanotsav etc. are observed to instil the values of empathy , and compassion.
Teacher’s Talks, Speeches and Skits are organized to make them aware of the significance of these days.
- Integration and embedding of SDGs in the school curriculum
The school has integrated and included the SDG’S seamlessly into school curriculum and annual calendar plan.
- The Inter school Competition “Explorika” organized by Bal Bharati Rohini for the session 2021-22 was based on the theme “ SDG’S Special “. All the activities and events from Primary to grade XII were woven around specific SDG’S . Each activity had clearly outlined learning objectives and outcomes.
- The Inter house activities of the school are also based on SDGs, where students collaborate on different activities based on One Specific SDG and creatively showcase their work .
- The school’s Commitment towards the SDGs can be gauged from the fact that the school ANNUAL CALENDAR for the session 2022-23 is based on the theme of SDGs; . The calendar showcases the various projects / activities in which the school has been involved and contributed to.
- The school released a SDG e-newsletter which showcased and highlighted in a creative and visually appealing manner the various SDG related events and Activities. the most unique aspect of the SDG E Newsletter was that it was in Hindi
- The innovative pedagogies that are an intrinsic part of teaching learning at our school also integrated SDG ‘S and its related issues . For example PROJECT BASED LEARNING TOPICS taken up by students deal with issues like WATER CRISIS , GLOBAL WARMING , SAVING TREES ETC.
- The SUBJECT ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES undertaken by teachers integrated SDGs into them , a perfect example is : The concept of Arithmetic Progression was used to design a poster on SDG 11-SDG15. Students made pyramid-like patterns, where objects were in increasing or decreasing in a constant manner. They wrote appropriate slogan to highlight the SDG

WERISEUP4SDG’S- #WERISEUP4SDG’S, INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
Our school is part of an # Rise Up4 SDG’S an 8 month long International Collaborative Project January 2021- August 2021) initiated by zealous likeminded educators from 35 countries to promote the UN SDG in Schools and unite children and all global stakeholders to work towards creating awareness and designing activities and methods to achieve these goals. Each month a series of activities are planned for two goals each. Our students have contributed wholeheartedly in activities like- the Art gallery , design cover of newsletter, mime, video presentation etc .Their work has been showcased along with the work of students of schools from different countries .Our teacher , Ms sugandh lal was a panelist at the #Riseup 4 SDG’S Conference where she presented our school SDG story on SDG -15” life on land “ along with educators from other countries like Taiwan , south America, , Argentina .
IIU -SATTVA, a global SDG PROJECT COMPETITION FOR 10 TO 21 YEARS STUDENTS organized by INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP
The aim of this collaborative project was to promotes the Sustainable Development Goals within the young minds, to create awareness, to involve and take action to achieve the 17 SDG goals and to unite all the global stakeholders to accelerate the UN SDGs agenda 2030.

It was a matter of great pride that our students from the category Green Beans’s project “HYDRAVO - a digital APP, “were amongst the top 5 winners. More than 100 schools from 15 countries had participated in the competition.
“International Carnival on Learning in Networked Community SDG course” (5 sept – 13 Nov 2021) was organized by APEC CYBER ACADEMY, TAIWAN. The aim of this project was to foster global competencies and fertilizing UN SDG’S among K-12 students with ICT. The event theme was “SMALL ACTION , BIG CHANGE- CONSTRUCT A NEW AIR PURIFIER FOR A SUSTAIN LIVING . Our school won the “Silver Medal “in their category.
- Sustainability Club
The school has an active sustainability club where students from VI grade onwards plan , organize activities both online and offline to promote SDG’S and ways in which they as youth can contribute to make this world more sustainable .examples of some activities and participation by our club members .
- The Sustainability club of Bal Bharati public school marked “World cancer day (4 the February) “by creating informative posts and Reels on their instagram page.
- The club also celebrated “ Women in STEM “( 11th February ) by sharing informative posts on their instagram page about women who have made a mark in their respective fields
- The students participated in the prestigious Global Sustainability Earth Summit 2022 held on 4th April 2022.
- The students of Sustainability club are part of the ongoing Road 2 Recovery International Research project. To recover from the impact of COVID 19 on learning and behavior of the students, THIS Project focuses on mending the academic, social and emotional learning gaps
- GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY AWARD 2021
The school received the trophy for Socially Responsible School and the teacher co-ordinator Ms. Sugandh Lal won the Global SDG Woman Warrior Excellence Award 2022 by ARC.
RECENT CLUB ACTIVITIES

- Global Sustainability Earth Summit 2022 held on 4 April 2022. With the students of Taiwan , Malaysia , Armenia, UAE participated . They gave short presentations on the importance of celebrating Earth Day and also showcased the various activities and endeavor of our school to create a sustainable world.
- Road 2 Recovery International Research project to carry out activities that can mend COVID -19 triggered academic, social and emotional learning gaps among students. Students are involved in monthly activities related to one of the 17 SDGs.
ATL AS A ‘SKILL SUBJECT’
The objective of ATL is to create workspaces that is suitable for young minds to learn innovation skills, develop ideas via hands-on activities, work and learn in a flexible environment. Students have been initiated into ATL by hand holding them through workshops on Arduino Programming, Tinkercad, Gaming, 3D printing etc. Standing true to its vision, it has indeed become a breeding ground for innovative ideas from young minds. The students, now, have the power to envisage making a physical solution to their everyday problems and they are also getting acquainted to how to approach the task at hand by breaking it down to bits and targeting one problem at a time. GLIMPSES OF ACTIVITIES : APR-AUG 2024
Scouts and Guides is a program organized in school in collaboration with Hindustan Scouts and Guides Association to ensure holistic development of students of class V. It is an experiential method of exposing students to various aspects of physical training, community service, and nation building through recreation. The programme aims at building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building among the students. It is a blend of outdoor adventure, education and fun.
